About this Blog Some call it attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD), others talk about being hyperactive. Here are the accounts of the life of a parent trying to help a child with ADHD.
About the Author I am the parent of a child with ADHD who believes that the one of the best ways to help such a child is by sharing experiences with other such parents.
It's pretty well written and, if you are just starting to learn about ADHD and medication, it's a good introduction. In a way, I was pleasantly surprised to read sentences such as this one:
It will begin to help us understand how ADHD may work...
This is the kind of stuff I like to read about. Someone is trying to understand. Yippee! (I know, I know, many researchers are working on this, but we don't hear about them very often.) What confused me were other things...
Ritalin, a drug widely used to treat attention deficit- hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), appears to work by tweaking the brain so it isn't as easily distracted by stimuli from the outside world, a new study in rats suggests.
Isn't this the very first thing we learned about Ritalin and ADHD? The article is filled with these apparently new facts I read about over six years ago. Sooooo... I figure there are only three conclusions I can come to after reading this:
1 - The author doesn't know a thing about ADHD and confused the years 2006 with 1956. 2 - We're dealing with a realllllllly slow scientist who didn't know about the other scientists were doing. 3 - We were lied to a few years back and they're only now actually proving what they were saying at the time.
